Description
The lack of sustainability and heritage identity of Algarvean gardens, filled with lawns and palm trees, is the problem I expect to contribute to solve. My hypothesis is that ancient agricultural and art of gardens treatises include forgotten solutions from a time when any estate was self-sustainable in the Mediterranean world: I believe they prompt more sustainable solutions for the use of water; can give a lot of inputs for the Iberian Peninsula gardens identity through the choice of plants that are endemic or were adapted throughout history; and give a lesson on how to combine usefulness with aesthetics taking into consideration ecological questions. To achieve these goals and test the hypothesis I will divide the project into three main areas: Literary Sources; Experimental Area and Communication and Implementation.
