Journal Club
The sessions of the Journal Club are informal discussions about texts, or documentaries, on the history of science, technology and medicine. These texts may be either
- Recently published journal articles;
- Book chapters, part of a book chosen for collective reading ("book club");
- Work in progress, a research paper or draft by one of the participants;
- Documentaries on the topics of history of science, technology and medicine ("documentary club", with 50 minutes of maximum duration).
These meetings intend to reach several goals, such as: debating recent national and international production in the area of history of sciences, technology and medicine; exchange knowledge and information about documentaries, books and articles published in specialised journals, as well as methodologies, themes and problems within the field; and, concerning the presentation of current research, debating with the academic community the work of each researcher, so that the critiques and conclusions of the debate support the consolidation of one's research project.
This cycle has been taking place since the foundation of CIUHCT (2007/2008), continuing an initiative that preceded it, and its current organisers are Samuel Gessner, M. Luísa Sousa and Jaume Valentines-Álvarez..
