APOM honors Isabel Amaral with a prize in the Conferences category
05 June 2024
On May 30, Isabel Amaral, co-coordinator of CIUHCT, was awarded the APOM 2024 prize in the “Conferences” category.
The award went to the 5th Luso-Brazilian Congress on the History of Tropical Medicine, an international conference organized by CIUHCT, in partnership with various Portuguese and Brazilian institutions, which took place in June 2023 (congress link). This event was a privileged moment to bring together national and foreign researchers in order to promote a forum for reflection and discussion on the concept of One Health, as a reflection of the most recent discussion on the COVID-19 pandemic. More than 500 researchers took part (in person and virtually), promoting discussions on issues of scientific heritage, the history of medicine and public health, social and environmental history, in local and regional geographies, and in different international, transnational and global contexts.
The conference program included the opening of the exhibition curated by Isabel Amaral and Paula Basso, Pelos labirintos da história da medicina portuguesa nos séculos XIX e XX, at the Museu da Farmácia, which was open to the public for three months. The catalog is signed by Isabel Amaral, co-coordinator of CIUHCT, and can be consulted in open access here.
