Workshop Final do RUTTER
26 May 2025

The RUTTER Final Workshop brought together an international community of scholars to reflect on the outcomes of the ERC-funded RUTTER project, dedicated to the study of early modern nautical knowledge. Over two and a half days, participants explored the global circulation of maritime practices, cosmography, and scientific ideas between Europe, Asia, and beyond.
Sessions covered a wide range of topics, from Arabic and Persian nautical texts to the role of astrology at sea, the structure of the Manila Galleon trade, and the evolving uses of nautical charts. The workshop featured presentations by leading historians of science and navigation, fostering interdisciplinary dialogue. Beyond academic discussions, the event celebrated the project's achievements in research, outreach, and public engagement.
