Today, January 10, Pope Francis appointed Portuguese researcher Henrique Leitão — a researcher at ULisboa Sciences in the Department of History and Philosophy of Sciences, at CIUHCT — Interuniversity Center for the History of Science and Technology and pro-rector of ULisboa - as a new member of the Pontifical Committee of Historical Sciences, the Vatican reported.
The Pontifical Committee of Historical Sciences was set up in 1954 by Pope Pius XII, inheriting the tradition of the Cardinal's Commission for Historical Studies that Leo XIII set up in 1883, after the then Vatican Secret Archives were opened to scholars between 1879 and 1880.
