Osterbrock Book Prize to the Biographical Encyclopedia of Astronomers

The Historical Astronomy Division of the American Astronomy Society has awarded Thomas Hockey (University of Iowa) with the 2017 Osterbrock Book Prize, for his work as editor-in-chief of the Biographical Encyclopedia of Astromers, a reference work with four volumes that includes around 1850 biographical entries on astronomers, from the antiquity to the modern age. The first edition of the book was published by Springer in 2007, and expanded in a second edition, in 2014, with more than a thousand pages and 300 biographies. CIUHCT researcher Luís Tirapicos has participated in the second edition, writing entries on Claude Stalislas Boudier, Henry Englefield, and Michał Boym.
