"Einstein, Eddington e o Eclipse" book receives a comic book award
02 May 2020
Physicist Einstein, astronomer Eddington and the 1919 solar eclipse observed on the island of Príncipe all meet in Einstein, Eddington e o Eclipse – Impressões de Viagem (published by Chili Com Carne), a book that appeared on the occasion of the 100 years of confirmation of the theory of general relativity, which was celebrated on May 29, 1919.
The book is distinguished with one of the categories of the Comic Book Awards 2019, attributed by the Portuguese website Bandas Desenhadas, saying:
If the script and illustrations of other works were distinguished in the respective categories, the work developed in this work is, without any doubt, greater than the simple enumeration of its elements. Not only is this an important historical documentation of scientific expeditions regarding the 1919 solar eclipse, but it reveals absolute dominance both in the construction of the argument and in the planning and graphic execution, presenting the reader with a captivating account with stunning art. Of equal importance is that the constant graphic experimentation, with frequent use of photographic resources, does not make it difficult for the reader with little knowledge of cartoon signs to read, fulfilling the purpose of captivating a wide audience.
The book, which brings together essays and illustrations, is intended “for an audience that spans from 15 to 150 years old”, as as the authors tell to the newspaper Público.
