On Tuesday, April 9, at 12 noon, there will be a guided tour of the exhibition Cem Meias Medidas: desenhos e gravuras de Inez Wijnhorst, by the exhibition's author, Inez Wijnhorst, and its curator, Pedro Freitas, presenting two visions - the artistic and the mathematical - that complement each other.
Participation is free.
exhibition “CEM MEIAS MEDIDAS: DESENHOS E GRAVURAS DE INEZ WIJNHORST”
The search for order is one of the great motivations of the scientific enterprise, materialized in simple laws and clear processes from which natural phenomena can be described or explained.
In this exhibition, Inez Wijnhorst makes a visual proposal that seems to follow a similar path, but with an artistic and humorous twist. Starting from a small square and following simple, well-established rules, which include shading and unfolding, Inez successively finds various, increasingly elaborate figures, such as a right triangle with measures 3-4-5 or a two-dimensional representation of a hypercube, understood as the shadow of a four-dimensional figure. In this succession of geometric elements, there is also reference to two concepts by Almada Negreiros, the Bauhutte Point and the 9/10 Ratio.
Having found this system of abstract geometry, Inez sets about applying it to various physical elements, such as the diameters of the planets in the solar system or various ancient measurements obtained from the canon of human body measurements, such as the cubit or the inch.
This process is now materialized and presented in a collection of prints and drawings that tell the story of a fascinating research project.
