RUTTER Online Workshop: Navigating the Transcultural Indian Ocean: Texts and practices in contact

Second edition of the RUTTER project workshop, organized by Juan Acevedo, Eric Staples and Inês Bénard, on the theme Navigating the Transcultural Indian Ocean: Texts and practices in contact.

This workshop comprises two afternoons of “hands-on” meetings to study the generation, constitution and circulation of nautical-related knowledge throughout the Indian Ocean, including the Red Sea, and eastwards to the South and East China Seas, as far as the Moluccas and Japan. Our presenters will help us explore the cross-cultural fabric of the extended Indian Ocean, gauging the porosity and versatility of cultural boundaries and markers.

The keynote will be delivered by Prof. Pierre-Yves Manguin of the École française d'Extrême-Orient (EFEO).
