Ana Simões and Ana Matilde Sousa on the radio program and podcast Pranchas e Balões on Antena 1
The radio program and podcast Pranchas e Balões welcomes Ana Simões and Ana Matilde Sousa (CIEBA-FBAUL), authors of “Einstein, Eddington e o Eclipse - Impressões de Viagem”, which received an expanded second edition from Chili Com Carne 5 years after the first. The episode is already online, including on the various podcast platforms.
In this book, the comic takes Arthur Eddington's correspondence with his mother, sister and the Lisbon Astronomical Observatory before, during and after his expedition to Príncipe Island to observe the total solar eclipse of 1919 as the starting point for a graphic narrative with experimental and impressionistic contours. Focusing on the web of human and non-human actors involved in this expedition - known and unknown people, animals, plants, environmental and emotional factors - the comic establishes an intertextual relationship with the theoretical essay on the scientific, political and social implications of this trip, the results of which confirmed Einstein's revolutionary theory of relativity. The “impressions” of the trip take on a double meaning, referring to Eddington's account in words and the marks on the pages, alluding to the material presence of the places visited.
