Science and Enlightenment Collection

The Science and Enlightenmnet Collection includes portuguese scientific works from the second half of the 17th Century to the first quarter of the 19th Century. Its main goal is to offer a better knowledge of sources for the history of scientific production in Portugal along the given period, which matches an era of special relevance for the history of sciences in general. Some of these works were previously unpublished or had very low circulation at the time of its publication, so they remain inaccessible to the audience interest in knowing these most valuable contributions to the history of science in Portugal.

Other than the original works, each book includes an introductory essay framing and analysing the edited materials. The global coordination of the collection is attributed to José Luís Cardoso (Instituto Superior de Economia e Gestão da Universidade Técnica de Lisboa), Francisco Contente Domingues (Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Lisboa) and Ana Simões (FCUL/ CIUHCT).
